Rodd hits the right note for Focusrite
Focusrite Audio Engineering Limited, a UK designer and manufacturer of Pro Audio equipment for the music industry, launched its latest product the Scarlett 2i2. The industrial design of the Scarlett 2i2 was borne from a close collaboration between Rodd Design and Focusrite. Part of Focusrite's new range of USB audio interfaces, the Scarlett 2i2 is designed to make home studio recording and mixing easy without sacrificing audio quality.
The brief was for the industrial design of the product to be desirable, highly useable, robust in construction and most importantly designed to meet the $149 retail price.
As audio novices we were treated to a hands-on demonstration of this product in a realistic recording environment. This way we were able to identity a series of incremental ergonomic and user centred changes that all added up to give the consumer a visually simpler and easier to use product.
The aluminium extrusion was an important element for Focusrite. Rob Jenkins, Technical Director commented "Firstly the use of anodised red extrusion links its DNA to other Focusrite products and secondly for our major customer in the USA the cool and robust touch of metal was a vital selling point”
